Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena’s India Visit

Hello Friends, today I will share everything about Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena’s India Visit. 

Who is  Maithripala SirisenaPallewatte Gamaralalage Maithripala Yapa Sirisena  known asMaithripala Sirisena or also referred to as “Maithri born 3 September 1951) is a Sri Lankan politician who has been President of Sri Lanka since 2015. He is a farmer and agriculturist and does not belong to any of the Sri Lankan political elite. Sirisena joined mainstream politics in 1989 as a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and has held several ministries since 1994.He was the general-secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and was Minister of Health until November 2014 when he announced his candidacy for the 2015 presidential election as the opposition coalition’s “common candidate”.His victory in the election is generally viewed as a surprise, coming to office through the votes won from the alternative Sinhala-majority rural constituency and the Tamil and Muslim minority groups.

Sirisena was sworn in as the 7th president before Supreme Court judge K. Sripavan in Independence Square, Colomboat 6.20pm on 9 January 2015.Immediately afterwards he appointed Ranil Wickremesinghe as the new Prime Minister.

Maithripala Sirisena’s Visit in India: In his maiden foreign trip after assuming charge, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena arrived in Delhi on 15th Feb,2015 on a four-day visit during which he will hold talks with the Indian leadership on the entire gamut of bilateral ties including ways to further enhance cooperation, peace and the reconciliation process in the island nation.

The 63-year-old leader, who will arrive in New Delhi on 15th,hold talks with the Indian leadership on February 16 and will travelled the Buddhist pilgrimage site Bodh Gaya and a temple in Tirupati on February 17. The Sri Lankan President will return on February 18.

4. Work-Plan 2014-2015 under the MoU on Cooperation in the field of Agriculture between India and Sri Lanka.
