Hello Readers, Today I’m going to share All About Santosh Trophy.
1. Santosh Trophy is an annual Indian football tournament which is contested by states and government institutions.
2. The tournament first began in 1941 and the first winners were Bengal who also lead the all time winners list 31 titles.
3. The santosh trophy named after the late Maharaja Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santosh, which is now in Bangladesh, who had been the President of the Indian Football Association.
4.The runners-up trophy, Kamla Gupta Trophy, was donated by late Dr. S.K. Gupta, ex-president, IFA in the memory of his wife.
5. One more trophy, Sampangi Cup, which was presented by the Mysore Football Association (now KSFA) in 1952, in the memory of Sampangi, a renowned footballer from Mysore.
6. In the present format, there is a qualifying round involving eight clusters of three or four teams each. The eight winners from each cluster are then drawn along with four seeded teams, who do not have to come through qualifying, and these twelve teams are then divided into four groups of three each. This is the quarterfinal league stage, in which each of the three teams in the group play each other. The winners of each group then move to the semifinals. The semifinals and the final are single-legged fixtures, with extra time, golden goal and penalty shootout, if required.
69th Santosh trophy football title 2015 started on 10 january, 2015. The first round was qualifiers round went form 10 to 23 january. After qualifiers round 10 teams got selected and the next round is group stage. The group stage round went from 1 march,2015 to 10 march,2015. Next is semi-final round played between 4 teams. Semifinal round matches play on 12th and 13th march,2015. After semifinal on 15 march, 2015 final match of Santosh Trophy was played between Punjab and Services at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana. Santosh Trophy 2015 lifted by Services by beating hosts Punjab (5-4) via tie-breaker.
In the final match both teams failed to score a goal in regulation period. But, in tie-breaker penalty shootout all the five players of Services including Captain Anthony, Arun Tudu, Vibin, Francis Zonuntulnga and Rakesh Singh scored goal which led them to victory.
